The Student Division lays the groundwork for all future dance training. Classes are taught with a careful emphasis on proper posture and placement, thoughtful full-body coordination, and expressive performance quality as dancers advance through each progressive level.
Dance Performance Workshop
Fridays, September 9-January 27, 2022, 4:15-6:15pm
For dancers ages 10-15
From the studio…to the stage! Our exciting Dance Performance Workshop engages students in the process of building a dance concert through audition techniques, learning choreography, design elements, and much more. Led by faculty members Calyn Carbery and Cameron Turner, weekly classes function as rehearsals as the dancers prepare for formal performances on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 in Studio5! Guest teachers will be brought in to teach choreography, share professional experiences, and guide the budding artists on their way. Limited to 20 dancers.
This is a workshop class and does not count toward the number of recommended classes per week. Dancers must be enrolled in at least two other classes—any style. Consistent class attendance is mandatory.
Ballet classes teach all of the basic positions, proper execution of the turn out of the leg, correct use of the feet, arms, and head, and the French Ballet vocabulary. Ballet helps develop strength, flexibility, musicality, and grace.
The syllabi for levels 1A, 1B, Basics, and Beginning Teen are designed to cover required skills with one ballet class per week. Expectations for Ballet 2A, 2B, and Continuing Teen are two ballet classes per week. Students in Ballet 3, 4, and 5 require three ballet classes per week. When space is limited in a ballet class at 2A or above, dancers taking the requisite number of classes are given preference in registering over students not taking the recommended number. Dancers are permitted to take more than the required number if they wish.
