JUMP TO CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS JUMP TO WEEKLY CLASSES SUMMER CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS
NEW! RHYTHM WORKSHOP: THE BODY INSTRUMENT Dates: July 22-26 Times: Monday 10:00am-2:30pm, Tuesday-Thursday 11:30am-2:30pm, Friday 10:00am-2:30pm Age Levels: Ages 12 & up (Ages as of 9/1/13) Cost: $220 DCE faculty and masters of rhythm Julie Cartier and Stephanie Paul lead this exciting week-long workshop focusing exclusively on the body instrument. Classes include Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Body Percussion, and Drumming, and the workshop culminates in an informal showing for family and friends. MINI CAMPS Dates: Session 1, June 17-21 (Allie): Time Travelers Session 2, June 24-28 (Allie): Ancient Egypt Session 3, July 8-12 (Allie): The Lost City of Atlantis Session 4, July 15-19 (Wendy): Rhyme along with Madeline Session 5, July 22-26 (Wendy): Carnival of the Animals Session 6, July 29-August 2 (Wendy): Take to the Sea! Times: Monday – Friday, 9:30am-12:00pm Age Levels: 6-8 (Ages as of 9/1/13) Cost: $150/session Taught by Associate Director Allison Volkers and DCE faculty member Wendy Park, Mini Camp takes the young dancer through an exciting narrative adventure. Inspired by a different concept each week (see above), the dancers build their own production using choreography, music, dramatic storytelling, set and costume design. There is a dance class every day, and each week culminates in a show for family and friends. These camps fill quickly, so register soon for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 weeks! SUMMER DANCE THEATER Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Dates: July 15-August 2 Times: Monday – Friday, 8:45am-3:00pm Age Levels: 8-12 (Ages as of 9/1/13) Cost: $750 Join this ensemble of young artists and use dance, music, and theater to collaborate in the creation of an exciting, original production based on Roald Dahl’s delicious tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Morning technique classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop prepare dancers for afternoons spent in theater games, choreography, and rehearsal. Led by Associate Director Allison Volkers and DCE faculty member Calyn Guberman, dancers will develop an original dance and theater production to share in a final performance. ACADEMY PREP DANCE INTENSIVE Dates: Weeks of June 24, July 1, and July 8 Times: Monday – Thursday, 9:15am-2:00pm (week of July 1 will run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday due to 7/4 holiday) Age Levels: Dancers who have completed Ballet 2B, 3, or 4 (or dancers ages 11 & up with significant experience) Cost: $220/week This exciting intensive challenges serious dancers to strengthen and refine their technique during summer vacation. Classes will be offered at two levels and will include Ballet, Pointe or Pointe Prep, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater, and Strength and Flexibility. Dancers who participate in all three weeks will be part of the Academy Prep Performing Company, and will have a new piece of choreography set on them by Mike Gosney, Director of Elements Contemporary Ballet. PARTNERING WORKSHOP Dates: June 17-21 Times: Monday – Friday Level 1 (students who have completed Ballet 3, 4, or 4B): 4:30-6:30pm Level 2 (students in Academy Ballet): 6:45-8:45pm Partnering Plus (students in Academy 2 or 3): 8:45-9:15pm Cost: $160 for Partnering, +$30 for Partnering Plus Mike Gosney (Director of Elements Contemporary Ballet, DCE Academy level teacher) will instruct students in the art of Ballet Partnering, including balances, turns, jumps, and lifts. Professional male dancers will be on hand to assist students as they practice their technique. This workshop has two levels, and is perfect for both beginning and advanced partnering students.
